What Every Toddler Teacher Needs To Know about Biting

Thursday, February 4, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Working with toddlers who are biting can be very frustrating because they bite so quickly and for many reasons. Join Susan DeCarlo from the Infant Toddler Network as we learn strategies to prevent biting, ways to help the child who bites and suggestions to help the child who was bitten. We will also look at what you need to know to understand why toddlers bite and how to deal with biting effectively and appropriately.

Babies are Fragile – Please Don’t Shake!

Thursday, March 11, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Join us as we take a look at why babies cry, ways to comfort them and positive strategies to prevent excessive crying. We will also learn the causes and effects of Shaken Baby Syndrome, why it occurs and how it is diagnosed.

HEALTH AND SAFETY TRAINING

This training series is required for anyone who wishes to become registered or licensed as a Family or Group Family Child Care Provider. The training is presented in four sessions and covers 7 of the 9 required topics. This class also makes a good refresher if you haven’t taken it in a few years or an opportunity for group family assistants to receive their fifteen hours of training very quickly. This is a competency-based curriculum which requires the successful completion of written and demonstration tests.

Good recordkeeping is part of any successful food program. Join us in this training as we take a look at ways to avoid costly mistakes in your CACFP paperwork along with what to expect during an audit.

Setting Quality Standards for Food

Food is only as good as the quality of ingredients. We will be looking at how to purchase the finest quality possible, along with ways to store and handle food carefully, and ways to minimize nutrition loss and enhance flavor without adding a lot of fat.

CHILD CARE CENTER BASICS

This basic introduction to health and safety, regulations, developmentally appropriate practice, and positive discipline will be offered in one-hour sessions starting in February. If you are new to the field of child care, and looking for an easy way to get the basic training that you need, this is the series for you.

Free Personalized Training Hours

Our Education Coordinator can come to your family child care home or day care center and provide intensive technical assistance that is hands-on, one-to-one training, based on your individual needs and specific topics. Room arrangement, biting, challenging behaviors, transitions, health and safety, communication with parents or nap time are just a few topics that can be designed to meet your specific needs. Intensive technical assistance can be set up to fit into your busy schedule. For more information, please call Dixie at (607) 753-0106 extension 223.

Medication Administration Training

Do you need Medication Administration Training? CACCC will be happy to schedule a class for your MAT needs. Call Anne at 753-0106 extension 225, or email anne@cortlandchildcare.org.

NEW! Medication Administration Training Independent Study

If you feel like you don’t have enough time to get away from your program to take the MAT course, but you want to become approved to give medication, then the MAT Independent Study course is for you!

You can study all of the training materials on your own and at your own pace. When you feel you’re ready, you’ll only need to meet with a MAT trainer for a few hours to complete the testing. When you pass, you will get 8 training hours and a MAT certificate.

The MAT Participant Study Guide will walk you through the steps to complete Part One. As soon as CACCC receives your registration form and payment you may pick up a binder containing your copy of the MAT Participant Study Guide. You must also watch all parts of the MAT Video, which can be found at: http://www.matstudy.com/matstudy_videos.htm.

Once you have finished studying the materials and completed the exercises you are ready to be tested to complete Part Two. Testing will take place at CACCC.

Online Child Abuse Training

The New York State Office of Children and Family Services, Bureau of Training now offers FREE 24/7 online Mandated Reporter Training in child abuse and neglect/maltreatment identification. You can register anytime by visiting www.nysmandatedreporter.org, selecting "Courses Offered" and then clicking to register for "Self-Directed Online Training."

This 2-hour web-based training is fully narrated and interactive and features learning exercises customized for the Child Care profession. As you complete each 10-15 minute section, the application saves your progress and allows you up to 30 days to complete the entire course.

The Self-Directed Online Mandated Reporter Training course meets the New York State Education Department’s mandatory requirements for Training in Child Abuse Identification and Reporting. A certificate of completion is sent online to persons completing the course. It is a credit for 2 hours of training on this topic.
